The T2 System - Thermalwall Building Technology - T-Mass Effects
The thermal advantage of insulation applied to the exterior of a concrete wall is a phenomenon known as thermal inertia, more commonly referred to as thermal mass effect. Thermal mass effect is simply the ability of concrete mass to absorb and store heat.

The T2 System

The T2 Thermalwall Technology is an insulated concrete building system,a patented in the USA and Canada that is an accessory that enables concrete forming contractors with existing equipment or carpenters (do it yourselfers included) to efficiently construct highly insulated concrete walls for full height houses or commercial buildings or simply better basements. This creates the T-Mass Effect greatly increasing the R-Value.

The primary components of this systematic approach are a specially designed PVC connection device, expanded polystyrene foam panels and form ties. The system can be inserted into practically any concrete forming system on the market. This process is suited for the professional concrete forming industry as well as the individual who may only build their own home.

Many home builders will find this process to their advantage working closely with their local concrete forming companies.  Once the form is erected, concrete is poured between the foam outer layer and the conventional forming layer producing a fully constructed insulated wall where the insulation is bonded permanently to the exterior of the wall and the wall is ready to accept windows and siding.

With some systems the plywood that is used as the forming material and the 2x4’s that are used for bracing can be used as the sheathing for the roof and the stud interior walls making the materials used for the forming part of the homes building materials. This particular method is especially suited for the carpenters or other builders who do not have an investment in concrete forming equipment.

T2  works well with Aluminum Forms. Because of the large panel sizes a connector is used between the ties to make attachment of the exterior finish more convenient. Aluminum forms are fast to install and so is T2 Thermalwall.

Another popular method of forming in the USA is the steelply system. This method like the 1 1/8” with metal straps works well with T2 because of the 2’ increment and fast installation.

The studs and waler method or snap tie forming as it is more commonly known is a natural for T2. This system of forming is great for builders who do not own forming equipment. The materials for forming can be incorporated in the roof sheathing and interior studs make the cost of forming material part of the cost of the home.

The 1 1/8” plywood forms are manufactured be a number of different companies in Canada and the USA. The 2’ spacing and easy and quick installation make them an ideal choice for T2.
